I was lucky enough to be invited to the opening of the Selfie Factory Pop-Up at Shoreditch last weekend. Armed with my trusty Canon 600D, EOSM10 and iPhone, I dragged my friend to come along as my last minute photographer.
We braved the cold London streets till we found the place, brightly lit in contrast to the faint street lights. As we entered, we were welcomed to a world of excitement all for that perfect selfie.
Different areas of the places were installations to create fun selfies you'll never find anywhere else. They encouraged us to play with the props from the donut wall to a giant teddy bear. Each 'room' was fit with a certain vibe, perfect for the aesthetic.
I spent way longer than I should in each room, at least 10 minutes, going back and forth to perfect the perfect pose. Playing around with camera settings and angles, and I wasn't alone. Plenty of people around me did the same. I was not the exception, I was the norm.
That being said, there are a few things I would have done differently, given the chance. So I have some tips when you do go!
TIPS FOR THE SELFIE FACTORY
- | Visit during the day. You'll get much better natural lighting than dim ceiling lights.
- | Bring spare clothes - wear something you can easily change out of, and slip into another. This way, you can vary your shots and looks in a session!
- | Equipment doesn't matter. Sometimes, all you need is your phone and a friend you trust (with a lot of patience)
- Play around with shots. Go online and find some cool poses for the installations.
The Selfie Factory is opened now until November 20th!
Have you ever been to The Selfie Factory?
Personally, my friend and I agreed it's a fantastic first date activity, Cute, romantic and plenty of selfies for days. You can find more information on their Facebook or Instagram.
I'm a simple girl with a love for simple colours.
A style some might argue is 'lame,' but I say it's minimalist. I stick to blacks and whites, with the occasional pop of pale colours somewhere. It's an easy way to dress in the morning, especially in university, when I would rather come to seminars in pyjama bottoms and t-shirts.
So when I received these Lady Qomash shawls, I took it as a challenge. I would incorporate these ombre scarves (something I've never worn) into my style.
So how did I do?
LOOK ONE
Of course I would fall in love with the Hydrangea Black. From lightweight satin silk and design, the shawl is perfect to wrap around your neck during the winter.
The hand drawn design with the sweeping ombre caught my eye immediately. Its delicate floral pattern is subtle against the black and white. It provides enough edge for girls like me, who enjoy looking a bit bolder but still elegant.
I kept this idea in mind when I styled it.
HYDRANGEA BLACK
I stuck to my colour scheme to match this shawl. Pairing this ombre shawl with an outfit to compliment, I wore a New Look White Shirt and Zara Pleather Leggings.
As for the scarf style, I pinned the white part to my head and wrapped it loosely. I let the long side hang as I wanted to emphasise the ombre against the outfit's colour block. To finish the look, I wore my ASOS Pink Winter Coat as a pop of colour.

LOOK TWO
Their Hydrangea Rainbow scarf makes me feel like a unicorn.
Made from the same lightweight satin silk, the scarf reminds me of a rainbow pop ice-cream. With its soft ombre and bold flower print, it's definitely for the girly-girls at heart. The shawls drapes so well against any colour scheme. As for me, I stuck with black.
As usual.

HYDRANGEA RAINBOW
For the second look, I went for a basic Uniqlo Black Shirt and Superdry Jeans, completing the base with my Zara Oversized Jacket. I wore the Hydrangea Rainbow as a pop of colour against my all-black outfit. This keeps the outfit classy, but still young and playful.
The shawl wrapped loosely, keeping the long side falling across my chest. This provided coverage and emphasise the ombre detailing in the outfit.

Lady Qomash is a small company with big ideas, as their designs infuse art and fashion together. Most notable in their scarf collection, created with watercolour pencils. I can't simply limit myself to these two scarves, since they are so versatile. Each scarf is 90RM (BND 30), and available to purchase at their website here!
You can find them on Instagram or Facebook, where they update regularly. If you want to purchase these scarves you can find them here!

A universal phrase to mean 'we'll say we will go to that new cafe together but never will.'
Bruneians have a mutual love for appetizing food and obsession with new endeavors. Not a criticism, just an observation. I notice whilst typing away at the fifth cafe-restaurant hybrid to open this year.
The new cafe filled with young adults, happy to discuss life over steaming plates. This is just one place out of many, people seem to visit. No longer is there just Coffee Bean or Starbucks. Brunei, as Brunei sees fit, make their own culture. It is the new Cafe Culture. Aptly titled.
Now chains of ever-growing and ever-popular places pop up to serve. But with that, continues the rise of pollution. Note the non-biodegradable plastics and foam littering the streets. Hence why I started using KeepCup*

Unfortunately.
Everything shades itself in dull grey than pitch black or pure white. Thoughts are complicated, tangled in a circumscribe mind. Our black and white ideas battles itself into a quiver of clouds left unsatisfied. So we end our thoughts with half-ended summaries to explain.
This realization unfolded when my package from NewChic* arrived. And reminded me why life is so grey.

A grand Venetian in love with art, and passion and wonder. Instead, I am Bruneian in love with the illusions of Venice. Though we may have the Venice of The East in our Water Village, I yearn Venice herself.
Sammy Dress* has helped me achieve that dream. To an extent. With this glorious skirt, it inspired me to fashion an outfit based on Venice. The skirt is perfect. Sammy Dress itself?

I am none of those things.
I can say it with complete and utter confidence. The most badass thing about me is my literal bad ass. So bad it hurts, figuratively. I am not bold, not ballsy and definitely not a badass. Haus of Jimmy R* makes me want to be though.
Based in Brunei but with a world class eye, Haus of Jimmy R provides amazing designs for all. Handcrafted statement jewellery galore, Haus of Jimmy R's pieces almost speak with their own personalities. Ones that cater to their badasses and the wannabes like me.
I don't wear a lot of accessories. Usually, it's just my wristwatch and perhaps a necklace if I'm feeling fancy. As the year goes on, I found myself looking into more accessories to pair with my clothes. The curse of becoming a fashion victim. Finding excuses to buy pretty products.
Though, I wanted classic and elegant designs. Nothing bold or extravagant, but timeless pieces were hard to find. That's where Eve and Rosie* comes in.
From rings to bracelets to necklaces, they have such a great selection for girls like me. Broke but still finding ways to look cute. Based in Brunei, they were so kind to send some gorgeous pieces to review.
