Primark has a makeup collection.
I pass it every single time I'm in a Primark, always tempted to purchase but never do. Until today. When I stormed into my local Primark and found their latest Nudes Collection. The cashier looked impressed, and perhaps even shocked, with my bag.
So it begs the question, how is Primark makeup?
So it begs the question, how is Primark makeup?

While I wish I could have purchased everything instore, I only got a handful from each section. Hopefully, enough of a range to encapsule the whole collection.
Primark Nudes Collection launched in February 2018, packaged in neutrals with a focus on natural brown and pink hues. Certain products remind me of KKW Beauty and Milk Makeup. You can definitely tell their collection is lower cost version of those expensive 'natural & nude' brands.
HIGHLIGHTERS & BLUSH & CONTOUR
NUDES HIGHLIGHT & CONTOUR KIT :
This kit is most reminiscent of KKW Beauty Sticks. It came with a Highlighter Duo Stick, a Contour Duo Stick, Brow Highlighter and a double-ended brush and sponge.
The Highlighter Duo Stick was not universal. One end was too dark for me. The other end matched my exact skin tone with some shimmer. The Contour Duo Stick was surprising. I used both ends on my skin because it ended up blending lighter than I expected. Applies dark, but blends most colour away.
In this collection, I prefer the brush since it blended the contour evenly and feels soft against the skin, blending well.
NUDES HIGHLIGHTER STICK :
It looks like an almost exact dupe for Milk Makeup. It swatched beautiful, a light nude with a pink glittery sheen. However, it clung to the skin, making it difficult to blend out.
NUDES BODY SHIMMER DUST :
Perhaps my favourite, simply because it surprised me. An off-white shimmery loose powder. If pressed, I'd use it as my everyday highlight but if applied on darker skin, it would wash them out.
NUDES CONTOUR PALETTE :
Consists of two highlighters, a contour, and blush. An overall okay palette, their highlighters (Polar and Pure) aren't blinding. Instead, they give a subtle glow to the skin. The contour (Reveal) looked dark on the pan but once applied, blended to a warm bronze shade. I think the winner is their blush (Exposed) that gave a nice pink flush.
EYES
NUDES MATTE EYE CREAM in WHIPPED :
I applied the Matte Eye Cream as a base for the eyeshadow palette. What I assumed would be off-white looked grey against my skin. It was creamy but once blended, dried down to a matte finish. I wouldn't reccommended it since the grey cast was prominent.

NUDES EYESHADOW COLLECTION PALETTE :
This looks like it came from a child's toy makeup collection with cheap, breakable packaging. That said, I am dumbfounded by their eyeshadows. They consist of 28 shades for £8, making it 28p per shade. And the strangest part?
They're actually good.
I used different shades from the palette, each time impressed with the colour pay off and how it blended together. And for 28p a shade, what a steal.

LIPS
NUDES MATTE & GLOSS LIP COLLECTION :
Their Matte & Gloss Lip Collection consists of two glosses and mattes. The mattes and glosses were pigmented, with one swipe enough for the full efect. While the mattes did dry down, they didn't dry out my lips which impressed me. The glosses were fine on their own, but I prefered them as toppers to other lipsticks.
NUDES HIGH SHINE LIP GLOSS in MESMERIZE :
A £2 product feeling like a £6. Their lip liner and gloss reminded me of NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream, with their smell and application. Though High Shine Lip Gloss is (obviously) a gloss. It pulled pinker than I assumed from the packaging. It still applied smoothly and wore on for some time.

Overall, I am impressed with this collection.
Their eyeshadows and lipsticks, being the most note-worthy. For the price, they work much better than what I expected. As for their highlighters and contours, I prefered their pressed powders since their cream kits aren't universal.
If you're still learning makeup and looking for some quality products in your Primark, pick up the Nudes. They get a thumbs up from me.

On February 2nd, Benefit Cosmetics launched their BADgal BANG! Mascara.
And it released with an appropriate bang. The biggest launch in Benefit's history. After its array of girly astronauts, spaceships and rockets, the mascara is hyped up to be out of this world. Quite literally, using 'aero particles' from space. At least, that's what Benefit claims.
So is it really worth it?
It seems like everyone has an opinion on this palette.
It's shocking how much backlash Anastasia Beverly Hills have gotten since the palette's release. Beauty bloggers and makeup artists have put out varying opinions. Some good, most bad. Curious, I borrowed my cousin's to see if it was truly as bad as everyone says it is.
So is it?
FUDGE | Fudge is strange. The warm, deep brown is a beautiful colour and its velvet formula feels beautiful, it blends out horribly.
NEW WAVE | A light-medium orange with yellow undertones. New Wave, and other similar nude-ish colours, seem to be the best in the palette. It blends among the other shades, and applies without much work.
UNTAMED | I didn't like Untamed. The medium blue-green shade was difficult to blend and applied patchy. I didn't like the end result on my eye.
EDGE | What was supposed to be a medium yellow shade oxidised on my lids. Yes, this colour oxidises. How? When applied onto my eye, Edge darkened into a sour yellow. It retains its opaque matte finish, blending out well but still. How?
ROWDY | Rowdy is a deep burgundy, and arguably the darkest shade in the palette. It doesn't blend out well, staying where applied, but lasts for about 6 hours before getting patchy.
There has never been a more controversial palette than Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette.

When the palette was announced, Norvina, the Creative Director of ABH stated, 'If Modern Renaissance had a sister, it would be Subculture.'
Perhaps in looks, but not in quality.
As expected it looks high-end in its packaging. The Subculture Palette's retains the same velvet casing, this time in dark blue, with a magnetic closure. I've addressed the problem when I reviewed the Modern Renaissance palette, the case won't stay pretty for long. Powders stick to velour.
Though the cheapest retailer in Brunei sold it for BND $72, Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette costs BND $57.50 (US$42) for these 14 shades. An estimate price of BND $5.40 (US$3) per shadow weighing 0.7g (0.02 Oz) each. So it is the same price as Modern Renaissance, for slightly more product.

Subculture was inspired by the Instagram subculture community, that made Anastasia Beverly Hills popular in the first place.
Described as an essential eye collection with 'grungy mattes' and 'bold metallics' with an 'underground edge'. It features 14 shades, there are 11 matte shades, and 3 metallics including Adoran, Cube and Electric, which are duochromes. Perfect for someone who prefers mattes like me.
What made the shades so attractive were its colour scheme. Rather than warm or cool colours, these were neutral and muted. They reminded me of downtown streets, covered in old graffiti. Its colours rarely pop out, but cohesive in grunge.

CUBE | DAWN | DESTINY | ADORN | ALL STAR | MERCURY | AXIS
applied using finger
CUBE | Cube is a shimmery duochrome, with a pale pink-to-lavender shift. It felt like a cream than a powder, and had the least payoff on the lids. Even if I used my finger, the shift would fade after two hours.
DAWN | A warm peach, Dawn is the closest nude shade in this palette. It works best as a transition shade for light skin tone, and wears the best out of the 14 shades.
DESTINY | What I can describe as a greyish-green. Destiny is a muted olive green that applies patchy against the skin. Best applied with a fluffy brush.
ADORN | Adorn applies like a foiled texture, similar to those in Huda Beauty Rose Gold Palette. A creamy copper brown with a metallic sheen. It's slightly chunky and best applied with fingers.
ALL STAR | Somebody once told me, this shade was not good. All Star is a deep reddish plum matte with a warm undertone. The colour, when applied, ends up patchy on the lids.
MERCURY | Mercury is an odd colour. A neutral brown-grey, not too warm or too cool. It would act as a transition shade for the bolder colours, and for those with darker skin tones.
AXIS | Axis is a dark teal with a cool undertone. While it applied patchy as a swatch, I found it easy to apply with an incredibly light hand. It diffused well with a blending brush.
BOTTOM ROW SWATCHES
ROXY | ELECTRIC | FUDGE | NEW WAVE | UNTAMED | EDGE | ROWDY
ROXY | ELECTRIC | FUDGE | NEW WAVE | UNTAMED | EDGE | ROWDY
applied using finger
ROXY | Roxy is a light peachy-orange with a matte finish. No matter how much I try, the colour does not blend. It ends up looking stagnant and patchy.
ELECTRIC | A pale mint-green duo chrome. Electric is best applied with fingers to build from sheer coverage. Like Cube, it applies like a cream and fades just as quickly.
FUDGE | Fudge is strange. The warm, deep brown is a beautiful colour and its velvet formula feels beautiful, it blends out horribly.

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette is controversial, to say the least.
It should go without saying, all reviews will have some bias. The makeup reviews are no different. Subconscious or otherwise, good or bad, to a minuscule or large extent. As consumers, we can't listen to only one opinion. Rather, we should listen to many sources, and acknowledge their (unconscious) bias.
Some reviews I found refreshing were RawBeautyKristi, Jordan Hanz, Samantha Ravndahl and Stephanie Nicole. For a further in-depth review, Temptalia is my favourite. Even if I don't agree with their final thoughts, their videos were informative. It is imperative that we remain informed and make our own opinions based on the information.
That said, I have my own opinion. And in my honest opinion, it's not worth it.

Overall, I love the colours but I dislike the formula.
If the formula was similar to Modern Renaissance, this would have been another hit. Instead, the formula isn't lightly pressed, overtly powder and too strange. I wanted to love this palette, I wanted to create grungy badass looks. Unfortunately, the palette won't let me.
If and when ABH changes the formula, then I would reconsider purchasing the palette. Until then, it's a no from me.

So would you purchase Subculture?
What are your thoughts on the controversy?
with love,
I stole this palette from my mother.
When she came to visit me in London, she showed me the Huda Beauty Textured Shadows Palette in its unwrapped glory. As any obsessed makeup lover would do, I snuck it into my luggage. She found out eventually when I posted it on Instagram. She was livid.
It goes to show how popular this palette has become since its 2016 release. Every Instagram Makeup video seems to feature this palette or a Huda Beauty product somewhere. And it left me wondering whether this palette was truly worth the hype.
After a month or so, I made a review. So is it worth the hype?

At least compared to the abysmal 'Nude' shades I last reviewed.
Those lipsticks made me shake my fists in the air, cursing why I listened to all the praise. Purchasing so many disappointing colours because word-of-mouth. ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip's darker shades restored my faith. Not too the extent of praise, but of understanding.

I really did.
After all, ColourPop is praised like a demigod of the beauty pantheon. For their price. For their shades. For their difficulty to purchase, outside the US. When I received these lipsticks, excitement overcame me. I wore a ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip everyday to see if it was worth the price paid.
So were they worth it?
Well...

I sighed, eyes glistening and cheeks red.
'You're mine,' I thought. 'You're finally mine.' Pulse racing, palms sweating and breath hot. Ages passed since chest felt this tight. The sweet song stuck in my throat and heart banging against my ribs. I finally had Modern Renaissance in my hands.
My first Anastasia Beverly Hills palette. It is the beauty community's latest obsession ever since its Summer 2016 release. And why shouldn't it be? Ever since I had it, I wanted to write a review.
So what are my thoughts on this famous palette?

Urban Decay's Naked Skin Foundation will always be my holy grail.
But it has its problems. It's too lightweight and causes flashback, hence why I only use it as an everyday foundation. So when events arrived, I realized I needed a full coverage foundation. Not too thick for my normal skin type, and would last throughout the days.
So I picked up Too Faced Born This Way Foundation. In hopes it would be the full coverage I needed.
Is it? Yes, and no.

A trend so popular but so expensive.
From Anastasia Beverly Hills to the Jeffree Stars, liquid lipsticks have exploded. It's popularity blossomed on Instagram yet I had few in my arsenal. Good liquid lipsticks are are expensive. So I had assume I would wait for the next shipment of Kat Von Ds.
Until my eyes caught sight of Essence Liquid Lipsticks. Euphoria washed over me when I saw the price.
So I bought them all.

I have various thoughts about Benefit. Because while I enjoy their products, I find them overrated.
Their products tend to be average in above-average clothing. Their packaging being their biggest selling point. It's sleek, fun and girlish with a playful twist. Attention-grabbing while said-product remains average. Not bad but not the best.
Perhaps that's why I got so excited when Benefit They're Real! Sexy On The Run Mascara & Eyeliner Kit arrived. A smirking lady, hiding all those secrets within her. All the best of Benefit in one box.
So how is it?

It is a necessity.
I'm a simple girl who adores highlight. If I can step out the house, looking like I'm glowing in the eternal, then I will. When my head turns, the glow must be blinding. I never thought there would be such a highlighter. Then TheBalm Mary-Lou Manizer walked into my life.
What a momentous day for highlight it was.

My first product review in almost half a year! Wow. Why do I call myself a beauty blogger? I'm terrible at scheduling product reviews. My apologies to every respectable beauty blogger in the blogosphere. Jokes aside, I missed reviewing products. So I thought I could start off with this little tube of foundation! The first drugstore foundation I bought in almost a year.
So how is it? Well...
