Everyone loves and hates Instagram.
We share articles about how Instagram affects mental health, leading to rises of depression. We complain about people who like to take pretty photos and caption something nice, if not a little superficial. We don't like Instagram, but we use it anyway. It's the #1 social platform now.
I'm not here to complain. Rather, I'm here to ask a simple question.
Did Instagram Kill Blogging?
I ask this hyperbole of a question because it's been on my mind for years.
I haven't posted regularly on this website for years, inconsistent posts perhaps every other month (if at all). I'd blame a hectic University schedule but a part of me knows that's not true. In truth, I felt the blog had become repetitive. All thanks to Instagram.
Blogging has become a different scene, slowly shifting to short-form visual media that Instagram has captured. Captions are now longer, pictures dynamic and easier to maintain an audience with just a simple follow. By comparison, on a blog, you'd need a Bloglovin, Twitter, email subscription or Instagram to get notified if you aren't checking every day.
We're a society that prefers short-form content, easily digestible on Twitter or Instagram, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It gets to the point and easy to access. Instagram has connected people in ways I can't even fathom, not the way blogging has.
That said, I prefer written content, both in terms of my own content and others. Scrolling through blog posts about the mundane lives or tips I can just do a quick check on. I think Instagram has diminished the need for blogs but it hasn't taken away my love for it.
It's true that I don't post as much anymore but I want to start. Blogging on the site won't be my main focus, but it'll still be my little corner of the Internet. I also have a space on Youtube, Twitter, and of course, Instagram.
Great segway, I know.
What are your thoughts?
Do you think Instagram has killed the blogging industry?
one year of blogging gone.
and how did it go?
It was alright.
2016 wasn't perfect but it was alright. Apart from a few, long schedule slips and less-than-stellar blog posts. Despite them, I did find a few gems as I scrolled through old posts. Some I forgot I wrote, and others I remember with joy. I thought I would share those gems with you.
In no particular order, here are my favourite blog posts in 2016.
B L O G G I N G I S H A R D .
I should know. I am a blogger. And most likely, you.
Since you're reading this. Whether curiosity, or information or just a leisurely reading. Blogging can get difficult during difficult times. There are much more important things to focus on than long-winded posts or keeping in touch with other blogs. So to ease me through, I found a few sites that help me through these times.
Here are five sites I use for blogging!

I kept my blog private for the first year, refusing to announce it to my friends and family. Occasional posts pop once in a blue moon. An embarrassing beauty article with poor photography and unedited writing. These posts have disappeared. Purged to enact a new phase.
That said, H E Y B A S H improved by its second year. Scrolling through old posts reminds me of all the lessons learned. If I were to now these tips when I was starting out, perhaps I wouldn't have to delete those posts.
So here are 5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting A Blog!
So I celebrated my one year blog anniversary last week with a wonderfully long snooze and a big glass of a non-alcoholic beverage. Feeling nostalgic, I decided to read my old blog posts from last year. It was a decision I regretted almost immediately. My lips pursed with contempt as I continued reading my cringe-worthy content.
After a night of oh-so-sad lament, I thought of what I should have done instead. What I would say to Past-Me who has never blogged before on how to improve her blog. Short Answer: Many, many, many things. But these are my top five.
Here are some things I wish I knew when I began blogging.
