On February 2nd, Benefit Cosmetics launched their BADgal BANG! Mascara.
And it released with an appropriate bang. The biggest launch in Benefit's history. After its array of girly astronauts, spaceships and rockets, the mascara is hyped up to be out of this world. Quite literally, using 'aero particles' from space. At least, that's what Benefit claims.
Benefit BADgal BANG! Mascara retails for £21.50 (BND40) at Debenhams where I purchased it, intending to buy my fifth tube of They're Real Mascara. Instead, this caught my eye with its recent launch and starry display.
It's their BADgal Mascara reformulated. Launched with space-themed packaging is supposedly inspired by the mascara's formula containing aero particles, one of the lightest materials derived from space technology. These aero particles claim to create volume without weighing down the lashes.
The mascara also claims to last 36 hours, water resistant, smudge-proof with ProVitamin B5. That's a lot of claims.

BEFORE | AFTER
The mascara wand itself is small and slim, with 300 half-cone bristles, meant to get into every crevice of every lash. However, because it was so thin, it was easy for the wand to get onto my lids when I tried to get to the roots.
When I applied the mascara, I noticed how lightweight the formula felt. It wasn't heavy nor did it sit on my lashes, it felt almost weightless. The blacker-than-black colour impressed me, coating every lash and thickening it simultaneously.
It does have a tendency to clump, creating a 'spidery lash' which is typical for volumizing mascaras. To prevent this, I took a clean mascara wand and brushed the hairs while the mascara was still wet.

SO IS IT WORTH THE HYPE?
Overall, I'm impressed with this mascara.
Though I find their stunt promotion odd and awkward, the product itself is a blast. It lasts a good 12 hours, a regular day's wear, with minimal flakes and breakdown. I would be wary of all their claims but the mascara is great for everyday use.
It might just be my new favourite.
