At least compared to the abysmal 'Nude' shades I last reviewed.
Those lipsticks made me shake my fists in the air, cursing why I listened to all the praise. Purchasing so many disappointing colours because word-of-mouth. ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip's darker shades restored my faith. Not too the extent of praise, but of understanding.

So how were the darker shades?
Consider this a Take Two Review.
Hence the comparisons to the nude shades. In this review, I'll be looking at the darker shades purchased in my American Makeup Haul; which are Rooch, Limbo, Lax, Jellies & Dr. M. Each shade darker and unique compared to the nude shades from the haul we purchased.
The ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips are priced at B$8 (US$6) with 3ml (0.11oz) of product. These dark lipsticks share the same consistency as their nude counterparts; watery, thick and opaque. They are extremely pigmented as well, but have a much better formula overall. While the lighter shades oxidise (its main problem), these lipsticks remain their supposed colour.
Thank goodness.

Rooch has one of the more comfortable formulas.
Described as a deep russet wine, which essentially means a dark red with a brown undertones. It glides on the lips smoothly and dries just as quickly. Unlike some lipsticks, it does not flake nor dry out my lips. My only concern is that it can be patchy but a second coat should fix that.

A popular dupe for Kylie Lip Kit's True Brown K. Only not as expensive.
Pure dark chocolate brown in a bottle. Limbo is a great dark lip for the fair skinned, and an even better nude lip for those with darker skin. It's a perfectly average lipstick in the collection. It dried my lips but not uncomfortable. Pigmented but faded after eating. Overall, not the best nor the worst.

There is always a bad egg in the chicken coop.
LAX is deep, dark burgundy with a warm undertone that should have been great. But ended up being my least favourite among the collection. In addition to being patchy and uneven, LAX bleeds even with a lipliner. I notice a reddish-pink sinking through my skin difficult to clean up. It also left my lips dry and tacky. Great.

Don't be jelly of my Jellies.
Don't be jelly of my Jellies.
Jellies' unique strong cobalt blue made it a must-have. I never found a blue as vibrant as this shade. Its particular formula is very watery, more so than other liquid lipsticks. That said, it applies smoothly but with a distinct smell. Though comfortable, it fades considerable after eating.

I would describe Dr. M as a bold Slytherin Green.
The colour is absolutely beautiful. A cool-toned teal green with a subtle emerald pearl. Unfortunately, Dr. M cracks easily and flakes often. I'd recommend this lipstick for the colour alone, with the formula being mediocre. Nothing too terrible, lasting only a few a hours and removes with oil.
ROOCH | LIMBO | LAX
JELLIES | DR. M
Perhaps I was too harsh in my last review.
ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips are cheap, quality and price. But there are a few great gems among the bad. ROOCH, JELLIES & DR. M being saving graces of this collection. In addition, the darker shades don't dry out or oxidise as the nudes. Though I still provided individual ratings since the formula was wildly different.
Overall, ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip are not bad liquid lipsticks. With their wide shade range and price tag, they would be great purchases. However, there are definitely better matte liquid lipsticks in the world. More expensive but much more comfortable.
It really depends on how much you're willing to spend.
So what's your favourite ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip shade?
