I have various thoughts about Benefit. Because while I enjoy their products, I find them overrated.
Their products tend to be average in above-average clothing. Their packaging being their biggest selling point. It's sleek, fun and girlish with a playful twist. Attention-grabbing while said-product remains average. Not bad but not the best.
Perhaps that's why I got so excited when Benefit They're Real! Sexy On The Run Mascara & Eyeliner Kit arrived. A smirking lady, hiding all those secrets within her. All the best of Benefit in one box.
So how is it?
Benefit They're Real! Sexy On The Run is SGD$56 (US$28) in Sephora. It holds their most popular products, containing four mini versions of Benefit's They're Real series. This little kit is compact and travel-sized. Perfect when you're on the run. (Ba dum tss)
The kit features two Benefit They're Real! Deluxe Mascara in Jet Black and Beyond Brown. I prefer mini versions of mascara than the actual size. It has the same shelf life for only half the price. While I don't use Beyond Brown (my sister claimed it), I love Jet Black. This little bottle being my third in five years.
Whilst that is my third mascara bottle, Benefit They're Real! Push Up Liner is my second. It has one of the best gel formulas I've ever used. I purchased their gel liner a few years ago to mixed reception. Despite the amazing formula, lasting all day with little fallout, the application is horrible. The tip makes it difficult to create a consistent line. One fatal flick, and you'll end up with Winehouse wings.

To help remove all the makeup, the set also includes Benefit They're Real! Remover. It removes all the heavy duty makeup not even acetone can wipe off. The product given is minuscule (0.25ml) compared to the full-sized bottle (50ml). I'm wary of emptying it, only using a pea amount of the remover every other day.

So should you buy it?
It is not a set for all. Despite containing the best of Benefit's They're Real! series, I don't find it necessary. Only the gel liner and mascara seem worth it to me. The makeup remover contains too little for actual use and I doubt anyone will use brown mascara unless it's for a natural look.
In all, this is a gift for a makeup lover, that makeup lovers wouldn't buy for themselves.
So what's your favourite Benefit product?
Thanks for the review. This looks like a good deal, I love the little bundle gifts Benefit has. I also love their mascaras they make my lashes look amazing

I have to dig out my They're Real liner again to check if it has dried up. No kidding about the application, one small mistake and you're doomed.

Great review ! This is my mascara, it has been for a long time, whereas the liner was a huge let down and I never managed to apply it nicely. I usually love Benefit and the mascara is by far my favorite one ! Kisses

I love how honestly you wrote that post! I haven't try They're Real so far, but I think I will have to test it at some point because I am so curious. My favorite Benefit product is definitely the high beam highlighter.

This was a great review! I often feel the same about the benefit products -- what I've tried hasn't entirely lived up to the hype (or price tag) but I do love their primers. Great post! XO -Kim

Avon do a mascara that is like this one and it's half the price so I go with that one, as I think this one is overrated!

I don't think this looks like my cuppa tea - the remover seems a little unnecessary, especially if you barely get a good amount of it!

I haven't tried this mascara yet, but dudeeeee, they're everywhere. My cousin, my friends, the youtubers I watch, they all are talking about them. I am a fan of mascaras so I'm sure my path will cross with them soon. But I'm probably not gonna buy a set. I cracked up on the last line of this post. TOO GOOD!!!!!!

I think the last sentence is so well-found! I've never used any Benefit products but they always look so good. Thanks for sharing, xx Sjoukje from www.lemontierres.com :-)

My favorites are their Boi-ing Concealer and Gimme Brow. I agree that their packaging is eye catching, but I wouldn't buy everything they have.
ReplyDeleteI had a tube of the They're Real mascara after seeing so many people rave about it. I may have gotten a dud because I flat out HATED it! I should have returned it, but I ended up just trying to force myself to like it.

I feel like this product is good if you want to test out benefit, or if you're going somewhere where you need your makeup to take minimum space (for example on a big city tour with only one suitcase!). But until now I haven't had one good experience with benefit, so besides the raved about mascara, I don't think I'll bother to pick up anything else.
