E R M E R G E R D , C L O T H E S !
Admittedly, I am not fashionable.
I've discussed my ineptitude countless and countless of times. And though I've made peace with the truth, I still want clothes. It is innate in our nature to desire, to receive and to repeat. In Japan, I desired clothes.
Japan has such an immerse sense of style. Girls in high heeled boots with stocking and short skirts. Boys in smart suits with ties fastened around their neck. I stared longingly, wishing I wasn't dressed so frumpy with my hand-knitted beanie and oversize sweater. This envy made me buy pieces in both Japan and Singapore.
In an attempt to look cool, and always failing.

In Japan, there were shoe stores galore. Miles and miles of shoe stores with every mall we entered. This wasn't surprising since the girls had such pretty shoes. I invested in some versatile pairs instead. These functional White Sneakers are a tad too small, but bought due to the need for walking shoes.
Ultimately unnecessary, since I bought Chelsea Boots in the same store and haven't stopped wearing them. A fantastic pair I've been wearing every day now, like in my last OOTD post. How unfortunate I can't seem to remember the store's name. Darn, my inability to read Japanese!
But I know exactly where I got these Disney pieces from. In Disneyland, the Happiest Place on Earth. Which it was but that's another story for another time. In the clothing store, we picked up a Belle Cropped Sweater which I did not realize until I put it on days later, and a Snow White Clutch I adore. I still have to figure out how to style it though.
UNIQLO is a Japanese brand, think H&M of the East. Malaysian and Singapore outlets are nothing compared to the gargantuan store in Shibuya, Tokyo. Three stories high my sister and I ran around to find pieces for a Disneybound the next day.
It is the best store to find inexpensive quality pieces. We bought two Turtleneck Sweaters, a cream-white and baby blue, for 900 Yen each. Soft and cotton, I have not worn it yet in Brunei's humid weather. Fingers crossed to see if I start sweating buckets.
I also picked up a pair of Beige Legging Pants and matching Long Cardigan in the store. I lack basic browns so these versatile items will definitely come in handy in the foreseeable future.
Despite by dying wallet, I decided to stop by at H&M and Forever 21 in Singapore. A broke teenager's haven.
In H&M, my sister and I picked up two items. A Short Camo Flannel Shirt and ribbed knit jersey dress. They were impulse purchases but ones neither regret. This Forever 21 Midi Skirt might be however. It's too big and hangs just below my hips. Luckily, we have a sewing machine that could sew it into a high-waisted skirt.
As I've said in my previous haul, I regret nothing and everything.
Some of these items I intend to keep in my capsule wardrobe, wearing them regularly. Others will be memorabilia, smiled upon but rarely worn. That's fine for now.
For now, I will enjoy these piece I bought. For about three weeks, then I want more clothes. It is innate in our nature to desire, to receive and to repeat.
What pieces did you recently get?
Love it! I had fun reading this.

How can one go to Japan and not shop. You definitely picked up a nice mix of classic and unique items. I was just in Uniqlo today and bought a pair of pants for myself and a shirt for my husband.
ReplyDeleteAgree that in Japan it's shoes overload, or in general, merchandise and sensory overload! Such a cute haul, love it!

OMG, I know that if I ever visit Japan, I'll probably need another suitcase to carry all the items I buy. What with skincare, makeup and all their funky fashion, I would TOTALLY need 3 suitcases. So lucky!

ReplyDeleteand secondly, so handy to have a sewing machine, I have bought so many clothes that dont fit well and that would cost me way too much to have fixed :/

There are a lot of adjectives I would use to describe your style- rad, creative, funky, but frumpy would not be one of them!
