Product Play 01 | Featuring TheBalm, Wet N Wild

Friday, 4 December 2015

Prepare for some extremely uncomfortable close-up shots of my face.

Instead of studying hard last month, I went online shopping. A temporary haven to forget about the exams just two days later. Clicking on 'Add to Cart,' itching to type digits and watching it process. A wash of relief and excitement built up in me. My heart fluttered when they arrived, but my wallet cried when it say the price tag. I won't be doing much shopping anytime soon.

Oh well.

On a positive note, there is an influx of new products to play with! Hence the name, Product Play! You might be wondering, what the heck is Product Play?

Your confusion is justified. This is the first in the series that even I am uncertain about. My main goal is to play around with these new products, showing you how they look and giving quick reviews as I go along. Some of these products may have more comprehensive reviews in the future, if there are requested or even required.

Also another way to incorporate relatively 'normal' makeup looks on Hey Bash. For a beauty blog, it's horribly lacking in makeup posts.

I applied Urban Decay Brightening & Tightening Complexion Primer Potion as usual. Then used Catrice Allround Concealer in Salmon for my undereye circles. I've been using these products for a little over a year now, and might have to repurchase them soon.

Like I've said before, Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation in Shade 2.0 is my favourite foundation. I bought a second bottle and Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer in Light Neutral just a few weeks ago. The concealer is a new product that is a tad too light on me. Some days it looks fine, other days I become a soul-sucking poltergeist. That said, the liquid consistency makes it glide on and blend effortlessly. It’s thicker than the foundation but just as weightless. I might have to buy this one shade darker next time.

Once my base was done, I used a product I never thought I would ever use again. A bronzer. I expressed my hatred for bronzer in my 5 Beauty Confessions. Yet my sister picked up the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer in Deep/Tan and curiosity struck.  I picked it up using a light hand. While it may be too dark for me, it is great for those who want a sun-kissed look.

Yet my favourite product from this bundle must be TheBalm Mary-Lou Manizer. Where have you been all my life? Sold out. I bought it the second it re-stocked in Luxola, and not a second too late. It sold out almost immediately and there is no guess why. Look at that highlight! The champagne highlighter is so pigmented with flecks of gold shimmer. Just a dust of it with a fan brush is enough to brighten your face. I haven’t stopped using it since I got it.

I set everything with a travel-sized Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray. Like my foundation, this is my second bottle because I love Urban Decay’s products. It locks my base for the whole day. I might as well buy the regular version one of these days.

I drew my brows, using Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade in Chocolate and set it with their Clear Brow Gel. I primed my eyes using Too Faced Deluxe Shadow Insurance then used TheBalm Nude ‘Tude Palette. This also has a cult following, especially among the blogging community. I bought it for the packaging but was surprised with its pigmentation. For this eye look, I just applied Seductive and Sultry. I’ll have a more in-depth review of the palette.

Like many, the Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner in 01 Black is a repurchase. Though, they have reformulated and repackaged it since I last bought it. This product has revitalised my love for gel liners. It lasts throughout the day, and is as dark as my soul. I topped it off with my usual NYX Full Figured Mascara and line my lower waterline with NYX Wonder Pencil in 01.

While the products have surprised me so far, Wet N Wild have not. Wet N Wild Lip Liner in Brandy Wine is an off-brown bronze with a slight red undertone. For the price, it is highly pigmented but Wet N Wild Lipstick in Cherry Bomb is another story. A dark maroon applied with a brush since the lipstick itself was too hard and tacky. It was uneven with just the bullet. What disappointing first Wet N Wild products.

And that concludes the first Product Play! Which in hindsight, is essentially a normal MOTD just with relatively new products.

Still, I hope you enjoyed this and want to see more. This way, you will see more of my face without any paint or glue stuck on it. A step for more beauty-related content without losing what made Hey Bash, well, Hey Bash. A place for a neurotic woman-child to discuss makeup and feel good for five minutes.

If you want to see more, and excited to see more, please follow me on Bloglovin'! And don't forget to check out my first international giveaway! Are you excited? Because I am!

So have you tried any of these products? What do you think?

  3. I enjoyed this post, it's a great way to showcase new makeup and let us know your thoughts! That is really too bad about the Wet n' Wild lipstick, I love them as a brand so it's unfortunate you didn't get a good one! I also love The Balm's Mary Lou-Manizer. I love The Balm in general but that is definitely one of my favorite products and it looks gorgeous on you! Great post! XO -Kim

  15. I honestly can't stop laughing at your heart fluttered but your wallet cried. Sounds like someone I know aka me, hahahaa. Ok your killing me, the liner is as dark as your soul, lol. Is that the Urban Decay setting spray? I love and use it religiously. Too bad the lipstick was hard and tacky, but it looks great on you. I'd love to try it.
