A Red Lip Classic Wing Look using The Balm, Urban Decay and MN Liquid Lipstick

I've got that red lip, classic wing that you like.

I shroud myself in time. A mask of the everlasting facade. Lips painted with deep flames, and eyes lined with starless skies. Take heed of my whispers, that breath blows in the cold. Sweet love that fades so quickly, so dearly with one moan it goes away. I remain, and I reside. When they all become nothing, I am your everything.

Oh, it'll never go out of style.

Taylor Swift puns aside, the red lip and winged liner is a classic. Popularized in the 1950's and still prominent to this day. It embodies so many decades throughout time. Everyone has tried the look once in their life, a favourite among both novices and professionals. Myself included. Though I rarely wear red lipstick. I find them beautiful but bold red lips are for special occasions, and they make me feel old.

Hence, I wore this on a special occasion.

This may be the most normal makeup face I have done on Hey Bash so far, sans the sarcastic No Makeup Makeup tutorial. If you'd like to know how I achieved this classic look, then keep on reading!

I did my everyday base routine, using Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation in Shade 2.0 and Naked Skin Concealer in Fair Neutral. I baked my face using ELF High Definition Translucent Powder, then dusted TheBalm Mary-Lou Manizer lightly on my cheeks. I cannot stress how much how beautiful this highlighter is, especially after contouring with NYX HD Blush in Taupe. I kept the face relatively matte to keep the focus on the eyes and lips.

Brow were kept light and clean to frame the eyes, drawing them on with Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Chocolate and Clear Brow Gel. Prepping and priming with Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base, I then applied Urban Decay Naked Basics in Walk of Shame as a base. With TheBalm Nude Tude' Palette's Sultry and Seductive, blending it in the outer corners. I focused applying the colours on the outer corners to elongate the eye. I further blended it out with Urban Decay Naked Basics in Foxy

I then created a thick wing using Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner in 01 Black. To embody the retro style, the eyeliner was sharp and thick. For lashes, I used NYX Full Figured Mascara and The Face Shop Pro Eyelashes in Edge Edge.Which I seemed to have lost in my friend's car after peeling it off.

To keep this look classic but with a darker touch, I used a dark red then a true red. I traced my lips with Lancome Lip Liner in Cuivre, at least that's what I can assume. It's an old lip liner. Then filled it in with MN Liquid lipstick in No. 33. I rushed through the lips, I was already fabulously late. So please ignore the smudge that I eventually cleaned up in the car.

And then it's done!

Consider this a part one to the next post's part two.

It has come to my attention several times, that I don't do as many makeup posts as intended. Partly because the makeup I do want to do was too avant-garde for everyday wear. A happy medium was compromised. Perhaps it won't kill me to do have 'normal' makeup posts. What do you think?

If you can't wait, make sure you follow me on Bloglovin' here! You also get free cookies there and an international giveaway! Seriously, check out my first giveaway here! It is awesome.

So what do you think of the classic red lip and liner look? Love it or loathe it? I'd love to know!

  8. Although I'm not a fan of wearing lipsticks but, red lipsticks are always apt - when you feel you want to go down to the classics! Love it but I agree with you on choosing occasions on when to wear it. Nonetheless, you look fab as always! :)
