5 Ways To Make Your Makeup Last

Friday, 7 August 2015

This would have been more appropriate to post before Eid Al-Fitr.

I can go on about Eid, the long days under the sun as you travel house to house. By the end of the day, you will look like a panda. Both in face and size. I felt it was my mission to find a way to keep makeup stay longer, or at least, not worst.

So here are five ways to make your makeup last throughout the day!

Prime, Prime Prime | Some people I know consider primer as an unnecessary product used to cake up your face and spend more money. It's only half-true. There are fantastic primers in the market that keeps your makeup on, and there are some that are just glorified moisturizers. So search for the right one.

My favourite face primer is Benefit The Porefessional Face Primer that leaves hides my pores and keeps my skin looking matte but not flat. I also use Urban Decay Brightening & Tightening Primer Potion, sticky with a nice cooling effect.

For eye primers, NYX HD Eyeshadow Base has become a favourite. It surpasses many but Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Base will do just fine in this situation.

Set Your Face | Another step that many skip but I consider important. Setting your makeup with a setting spray or a translucent powder does wonders to your makeup. It finishes the look, and keeps it looking nice throughout the day. It isn't a necessity, but is incredibly helpful.

Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Spray sets your face and keeps it on for the long day ahead. A cheaper alternative that I have is Bio-essence Miracle Bio Water. My favourite setting powder is ELF High Definition Powder, that keeps the skin matte.

Long Lasting | This is when to take your your big guns out. Use your best products that are long lasting, and won't require clean up when you're out. This is (but not limited to) eyeliners, lipsticks and mascara. As much as I adore Better Than Sex Mascara, it won't last me the whole day.

I've been using NYX Full Figured Lush Lashes Mascara, which lengthens my lashes, even if it doesn't have much volume. It stays throughout the whole day without flaking, which is always a sign of a good mascara. If you need something inexpensive, Catrice has a whole range of mascara such as All Round Mascara.

Bring The Bag | Your makeup bag should be filled with little essentials. You don't need to carry your powder, mascara or eyeliner. No, re-applying more makeup on your face will clog your pores, and make your skin look as cakey as cream cheese cake.

These are the products you need to keep your face looking good throughout the day, just as an upkeep
The little essentials in my makeup bag are pack of tissues, q-tips, a lipstick, and a setting spray. Q-Tips are the littlest life-savers.

Hands Off | Do not touch your face. Ever. Seriously. Don't.

If you're like me, you have the tendency to pick at your lashes and touch your brows. It's an awful habit that will cause your makeup to smudge. So if you feel beads of sweat trickling down your forehead, take a tissue and dab. Don't rub, pat your skin lightly and reapply a setting spray.

None of these are 100% effective, nothing is. But these little things at least will keep you looking fine throughout the day.

So how do you make your makeup last?

  5. OMG the Urban Decay All Nighter spray is my absolute fave. It works sooo well, especially if you're wearing a ton of eye makeup. I have semi-greasy lids so my eye makeup always melts up by the end of the night but that spray helps keep it on. Lovely review!

  22. I think not everyone has wanderlust because in that same class I mention in the post a guy was really surprised I thought travelling was vital and said 'What about having a family?' and my face was like 'Dafuq you talking about boy? I want my own life before I even consider having a family'.

Anyway - I LOVE travelling and Holland is amazing. I went to Amsterdam as a birthday treat for myself and it was so perfect and gorgeous.

Also - amazing tips! I always wonder how to keep make-up fresh

  24. Setting your makeup is so important and sadly something I forget to do often! Would you recommend elf's HD powder? I'm currently using NYX translucent powder but I feel like it makes your face look so one dimensional! Wow I'm so off topic here aren't I?! Anyways thank you for the lovely tips, Bash <3

  26. I have definitely loved using a good primer. You can really tell a difference when you don't use a primer. I recently have been loving Hourglass veil primer, and Smashbox or Laura Mercier is a fall back one when I run out of that. <3 /Madison

  30. These are all really great tips! I don't wear makeup often bc it's just so darn confusing, and it seems like in order to "do it right" you have to have a million products. Although I would love to get something to make my skin look better!

  36. I have such trouble with mascara transferring underneath my eyes by the end of the day - it's so annoying! I think I just need to switch out the ones I'm using for one I've got in my backup drawer because clearly these ones aren't doing it for me! And I never skip primer, I've got oily skin and even though it seems like another unnecessary step some of them make a huge difference!

  37. Prepare for any melted makeup emergencies by keeping a small makeup bag full of everyday essentials. Products we like to keep on hand at all times are blotting papers, pressed powder, and a cream-to-powder makeup stick that can double as blush and a lipstick.
