“The energy you’ll expend focusing on someone else’s life is better spent working on your own. Just be your own idol.”  - Sophia Amoruso

Rating: 4/5

It seems every blogger has this book, usually Kindle edition. Left and right, everyone praises the book. Perhaps it is in part of the author; Sophia Amoruso. CEO and Founder of Nasty Gal, and #GIRLBOSS (Yes, the hashtag and all caps are necessary).

The best way to describe #GIRLBOSS is that it is part-memoir, part-self-help, part feminism book. It shows her from the anti-capitalist who couldn't hold a job for two weeks to the CEO of the fastest growing online retailer. How she manages to take her tiny e-bay shop to a powerhouse name can be found in this book weaved with business tips and funny anecdotes.

I bought the book a while ago and I mentioned it here in a recent haul and here during my Currently just last month here. It shouldn't have been surprising that a lot of bloggers have read it, or read about it.

The first thing I noticed about #GIRLBOSS is that it felt like a long blog post. Which could be a factor to why bloggers love it so much. The book has a few guest writers that wrote a page or two about how they became bosses in the field. Illustrations mark the start of each chapter. Few books can be both informal and silly while staying sophisticated and feminine.

What surprised me is that I could relate to Amoruso so well with social identity and business. She knows that this book is for women and does not belittle nor poke fun at like so many business experts do. She knows that this book is for the capable woman AKA every woman, and writes accordingly.

There's so much in this book that the modern young woman would love, which is who I feel the book is aimed at. It makes it seem like a book for this generation of women, the feminist generation with all their ambition and strength. .The book is exactly what the title implies. it teaches you how to be boss in the ever-growing, ever-changing world.

The author is an inspiration for me and to all women. I would recommend this book to women. To the business women, to ambitious young girls, and to everyone needed a little inspiration boost. #GIRLBOSS is like the woman herself. Honest, full of sharp wit and unabashedly hilarious. In short, I love it.

So have you read #GIRLBOSS or read any kind of books like it? I hope you'd want to read it anyway. Either way, please do tell me and stay awesome, #GIRLBOSSES.

  4. I read this book a few months ago when I was going through a bit of a low and having a kind of quarter-life crisis. It gave me the inspiration to really chase my dreams and never settle for anything less than what I know I can achieve. It's really helped keep me on track while launching The Click and I always turn back to it when I start having doubts or feeling overwhelmed. I've recommended it to all my blogger friends!! xx

  45. I really loved Girlboss the day or so after I read it, but then it really soured on me after I thought about it. I think this partly due to timing (NastyGal was having well publicized concerns with her as "girlboss") & the fact that I read the Juicy Couture book right after. The Glitter Plan by the founders of Juicy Couture is much more relatable...you hear about the times they really messed up their business...you also hear about the advantages they had going into the fashion world.
